Pump Will Not Dispense Medication, What Should I Do?

This article contains information to help correct problems where the pump is not communicating with the software.   The instructions apply to all pump types.

Indications:

1. Pump will not dispense medication

Resolution:

Step 1:   Cycle the pump off/on.  If this does not resolve the issue proceed to the next step.

Step 2:  Turn off the pump.  Log out of Smart and Windows and shut down the workstation.  Turn on the pump and reboot the workstation.  Sign into Windows and Smart and try to dispense medication again.  If this does not resolve the issue proceed to the next step.

Step 3:  Turn off the pump.  Log out of Smart and Windows and shut down the workstation.  Reboot the workstation and turn on the pump.  Sign into Windows and Smart and try to dispense medication again.  If this does not resolve the issue proceed to the next step.

Step 4:  Turn off the pump.  Unplug the serial cable from the back of the pump.  For an Ivek pump please note, the serial cable will go from the back of the control unit to the back of the workstation – it is not the black cable that connects the pump to the control unit.  Turn on pump and check indicator lights – both Ready and Dispense lights should be on.  Plug the serial cable back in.
